Important for readers in India. Indian residents may trade forex only through authorised entities on recognised Indian exchanges, in permitted currency pairs. Trading forex, gold or other CFDs with overseas brokers and sending money abroad for margin is not permitted under FEMA, and the RBI's Alert List names many overseas brokers, including several below (marked On RBI Alert List). This page is for readers where these brokers are licensed to serve them. Check the law where you live before opening an account. CFDs are complex, leveraged products and most retail accounts lose money.

Our verdict

IG is a long-established, publicly listed UK broker with Tier-1 regulation in many jurisdictions. Gold is spread-only at around $0.30, which is average rather than cheap.

IG was founded in London in 1974 and is part of IG Group, which is listed on the London Stock Exchange. It is one of the most heavily regulated retail brokers, holding Tier-1 licences from the FCA, ASIC, MAS, JFSA, FINMA, the FMA, the CFTC and EU regulators, as well as licences in Dubai, South Africa and Bermuda. Clients in countries without a local IG entity are usually served by IG International in Bermuda. Gold is offered as a spot CFD with a minimum spread of $0.30 and no commission, which BrokerChooser rated close to the $0.32 market average in September 2026. IG does not offer a raw-spread account, so active gold traders may pay more than at raw-pricing brokers. Gold futures and options are also available. Retail leverage on gold is 1:20 under Tier-1 rules. Platforms include IG's own web and mobile apps, MT4, MT5, TradingView and ProRealTime. There is no fixed minimum deposit for bank transfers. Swap-free accounts are not generally offered. Sources disagree on whether IG accepts Indian residents, and 'IG Markets' is named on the RBI Alert List, so Indian readers should be cautious.
