Our verdict
AvaTrade is a long-established broker with several Tier-1 licences that offers gold on MT4, MT5 and its own app with commission-free pricing. Its gold spreads are mid-range and it appears on the RBI Alert List.
AvaTrade has operated since 2006 and is headquartered in Dublin, with regulation from the Central Bank of Ireland, ASIC, CIRO, CySEC, Japanese regulators and several other authorities. Gold is offered as a CFD with a single commission-free pricing model; BrokerChooser measured the XAU/USD spread at about $0.37 in September 2026, slightly above the average it tracks across more than 100 brokers. There is no raw-spread or ECN account, so active gold traders cannot trade off lower spreads plus commission. Clients can use MT4, MT5, the AvaTradeGO mobile app or the web platform, and AvaOptions for vanilla options. Negative balance protection is stated for all clients, client funds are segregated, and a swap-free Islamic account is available. Costs to watch include an inactivity fee after three months and an annual administration fee on dormant accounts. For Indian readers, the picture is unclear: BrokerChooser says AvaTrade does not accept Indian residents, while ForexBrokers.com says they are onboarded via the BVI entity, which carries lighter protections than the EU or Australian entities. AvaTrade is also named on the RBI Alert List of unauthorised forex platforms. It suits traders who prefer a well-known brand and fixed-style pricing over the lowest possible cost.
Pros
- Multiple Tier-1 licences (Ireland, ASIC, CIRO, CySEC, Japan)
- Commission-free, relatively predictable gold pricing on one account
- Supports MT4 and MT5 plus its own AvaTradeGO app
- Negative balance protection for all clients

Cons
- Listed on the RBI Alert List ('Ava Trade', entry 3)
- Gold spread (~$0.37) is above the ~$0.32 industry average tracked by BrokerChooser; no raw account
- Inactivity fee ($50 per quarter after 3 months) and annual admin fee
- No cTrader or TradingView
- Conflicting information on whether Indian residents can open accounts
